Make Hay While The Sun Shines

Long ago I looked around at the cubicles in the high tech outfit where I worked and thought about the friends, the guys and gals that were not there anymore.  Laid off, downsized, promoted out, etc.  I decided it was time to leave, so I did.

I retired from working for the other guy.  I offered my programming and internet services on the free market and all went well until I grew tired of the sameness of it all.

Anyway, at some point after that I discovered the field services business and I spent an awful lot of time to discover all I could about this top secret business.  I eventually started up our field service business when my mentor told me:  “When the economy is good, this business is good.  When the economy sucks, this business is great”!  Really, what more did I need to know?

Eventually I started helping others get into the business and even started this blog to broaden my exposure.

Fast forward a few years and the economy absolutely craps out.  Gasoline is at $4.00, milk is $5, and a loaf of bread is $2.00.  What the he…..?  The economy sucks and as it so happens, our business is out of control.  The worse the economy gets, the more work we have to do.

I have tried to at least show up once in a while here at the blog, however, I find that there really is too much for me to do to stay so dedicated to the blog.  A bunch of our clients are hollering for us to help train field reps, some clients want us to QC much of their field work and some clients want us to have traveling seminars…  I don’t think so – not during hurricane season.  Oh yea, all of this is on top of running our field services business which has probably doubled already this year.
I found out just a while back that my lack of attention to the blog caused some people to assume I had lost interest in the blog or in the business.  That was understandable considering that I had not published a comment one way or the other.  Assuming that I had lost interest in the blog, I’ve had people contact me to write or review books, create their training material or they happen to  mention that I’m just the guy they need to help make them rich on the internet.  I am deeply grateful for all of these requests and some of the information they have passed on to me has helped me discover and uncover some very interesting things concerning the business.

It’s hard to disappoint people by turning down their requests; it makes me feel bad, and I’m sure it’s a real let-down to the people who have gone to the trouble to contact me.  So, the only sensible thing for me to do, at least for a while, is to quit blogging. Rather than let the blog sit and appear abandoned, I decided to enter this blog, which will be the last for a while.

I intend and look forward to coming back as soon as possible, maybe in the fall, but I for now must, as they say, “Make hay while the sun shines”. I may show up on occassion before then so I recommend you subscribe using the RSS Newsfeed at the top right of the page.  You don’t need to be constantly coming here to see if there’s anything new – you need to be out cutting the hay.

I mentioned a while back that I have acquired some help with the writing, editing and video productions.  These people have been spending way too much time waiting for me to make myself available.  It’s all my fault and this will never do, especially since we are still updating the original manual at least weekly, producing new manuals and other training materials.  I will announce new material as it becomes available so there is another good reason to subscribe to the RSS Newsfeed.

In the meantime, the blog will continue to sit here, as a resource. There is page after page of good material here.  There’s thousands of words on the blog now, and if you wonder whether I’ve ever mentioned something, I probably have. Use the search function to find what you are looking for. For the time being, however, I won’t be adding anything new unless it’s extremely juicy.

Thanks for coming by.  See you sometime in the future.
