I can’t really remember how long ago it was, but I remember a post where I stated that some of the mortgage field services companies are competing against one another trying to claim the bottom of the pile; the most despised, the most arrogant and most thankless company to work for.
Well, I tell you what, the competition is really heating up. I had an e-mail forwarded to me yesterday telling the tale of an inspector that got a $75 charge back for not making a phone call. Twice! Two phone calls that the company said were not made – $75 bucks each. There were a few other charge backs too: $2 or $1 penalties for late work or something. Maybe with any luck at all, the rep did not have a negative cash flow that day.
Now I know this will never happen to you. Some people just somehow manage to avoid all the troubles and setbacks in life. Most new field inspectors are in this category. Just lucky I guess, but the rest of us that have been around a while seem to have stories to tell that are ignored; probably because they sound so impossible. They aren’t.
After getting this e-mail I thought I would look at the file we keep on this company. We like to know what they say, when they said it, etc. I did not have to look hard because there was a fax from them today telling us what we would do and what we would not do, etc. etc. etc. I think this itty bitty outfit is trying to claim the bottom of the pile. They will get our resignation letter tomorrow.
Which brings me back to the inspector with the $75 chargeback. If I read the e-mail correctly, he intends to keep working for that company. The company has him right where they want him – depending on the company store.
Now all of you new field reps can ignore all of this. It will never happen to you, but a lot of us old timers are starting to dump the companies that are trying so hard to drive us out of business.
As a parting comment, here is a nice article I ran across today. I found it on a blog named LivingLies.
