Blowin’ in the Wind

After one of my phone conversations today, I just had to make reference to Bob Dylan’s song, Blowin’ in the Wind.
I talked with the head honcho of a national group and we talked about The Rep Report and the field services industry in general. Our main topic was getting individuals and organizations to contribute articles for publication at The Rep Report. I kept getting the feeling that something is “Blowin’ in the Wind”. Changes are coming. I can feel it and that particular conversation enhanced the feeling.
Always anxious to confirm information that I write about, I consulted Wikipedia, one of my favorite things to do on the Internet. Wow. After reading what Wikipedia had to say about Bob Dylan and his song “Blowin’ in the Wind“, I knew I was on to something. All the right words were there: protest, philosophical, peace, war and freedom.
Wikipedia went on to state “He has called it a work song, perhaps in reference to its derivative, rather than inspired, nature of its composition, the melody being derived from the old slave song “No More Auction Block”, and some of its lyrical structure from the 1953 song “I Really Don’t Want to Know“.
Uh, oh. “No More Auction Block”. “I Really Don’t Want to Know”! All of this stuff really was starting to sound like some of the statements I hear from field reps across the country.
Yes, there are changes coming.
On another subject; I have done it again. I think I have upset a reader because I took a stand contrary to what some believe as far as what fees we should be getting for our services. I have asked for permission to publish the email and if I get permission, I will post it here. If not, I can give you the big picture in another post later.
I got a email from another rep in The Lone Star State. He was trying to be funny I guess – wanted to know if things had slowed down! Yea, right. To let you know, I have been cranking out between 45 and 75 inspections per day since last week some time. Remember, I said that company called and asked us if we wanted the work from the retiring rep. Well, we got it.
We got one commercial inspection in today and two property preservation jobs. All I have to do is hang in there for just a couple of more days.
Hope all is well with you. See you tomorrow, hopefully. Oh, by the way. I would like to hear from you. What do you think about this mortgage mess? What about Countrywide?

Hi Terry,
I was just curious if you could tell me if pricing on a construction site pertains to size in addition to numbers? Would the price be the same for 2 jackhammers vs 2 cranes?
Thanks,
Steve

Although most companies pay per piece of equipment, I have seen variations.
If a company asked me to inspect two jackhammers and two cranes, I would not be surprised that they offered a flat rate for the whole shebang.
If there were more than two jackhammers or other small equipment, they might offer so much per hour on site to inspect the small equipment plus a fee per crane.
