An Interview With Veritas National Field Service

Posted by terry in December 4th 2008

In Roman mythology, Veritas (meaning truth) was the goddess of truth, a daughter of Saturn and the mother of Virtue. Veritas is also the name given to the Roman virtue of truthfulness, which was considered one of the main virtues any good Roman should have possessed.

Veritas National Field Service, LLC is based in the Dallas, Texas area and services all of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska.

Late yesterday I spoke with the director of Veritas National Field Service, LLC, Brett Wise.  I asked Brett to offer some good advice for you to follow when trying to gain additional companies to work with.

Terry Platt  Brett, can you tell us what your background is and your responsibilities at Veritas National Field Services, LLC.

Brett Wise  I spent sixteen years with Ford Credit in a variety of different roles, including several years as a manager in Loss Prevention.  My time spent at Ford Credit taught me that there was a real need for a company that could provide good, quality field work for finance companies.  At Veritas National Field Service, it is my responsibility to make that happen.   We provide professional field agents that are eyes and ears for these finance companies to help them avoid losses and get in touch with their customers. We personally deliver a debtor contact letter asking the debtor to immediately contact our client’s collection department regarding their account.

Terry Platt  Does your company specialize?  How are you different than say, Sandcastle or Global or Guardian?

Brett Wise  I would say that we probably do the majority of our work in the auto finance field.  We have been seeing more field work with mortgage service firms due to the current economy.  We attempt to verify every address before it is sent out to an agent to complete a field visit.  Our clients appreciate that we attempt to verify these addresses so they aren’t billed for work that doesn’t provide them any value.  Our field agents also benefit by not spending time looking for non-existent or “bad” addresses.    It is very important that we have motivated and professional field inspectors.

Terry Platt  Speaking of inspectors, how may inspectors do you work with?

Brett Wise  We work with several hundred inspectors nation-wide.  A lot of our accounts are concentrated in certain areas of the country, so naturally, we have more inspectors in those areas.

Terry Platt  How do your inspectors help your company stand out?  What’s different?

Brett Wise  I would have to say our selection process helps us find the best inspectors.  We can quickly separate the not-so-qualified rep from the qualified.  We also track the performance of the field agents as well.

Terry Platt  Sounds like you’re fixing to tell me what I really want everybody to know.  What’s the secret?  Or is there a secret?  What makes you contact a rep that has replied to one of your ads?

Brett Wise  We’re looking for an organized rep that performs quality work.  We’re looking for the rep that projects quality in their correspondence with us – it’s the first indication of quality or lack of quality.

Terry Platt  I think I know what you’re saying but, if you will, can you give us some specifics?

Brett Wise  Well, the most obvious and easiest sign of quality is spelling.  It is really amazing what we get in response to our ads.  It’s obvious that if their response or their resume is full of spelling mistakes, their work will be too.

The next item is contact information.  A lot of reps will send only an e-mail which has no other contact information – only an e-mail address; we don’t even know their name.

We need a clearly defined area the rep covers.  If we receive a resume that states the rep covers an entire state or even a densely populated area, we have to be doubtful that the rep has put much effort into describing their area.  Seldom can one rep cover an entire state or even a big metro area.

It happens often that we have a rep tell us their area is, say Houston.  Then when we send a job in the Houston area and they respond back that they don’t cover that part of Houston.  Well, that’s not was on the resume!  Once we find a reliable, quality field inspector, they will receive all of our work in their area.

Terry Platt  OK, Brett, would you be comfortable talking about fees?

Brett Wise  Sure.  Our standard pay for the inspector is $25 but that does vary some depending on the area or other circumstances.  We do not issue re-chases and we try to always have two contact addresses so the rep has a much better chance at contact.

Terry Platt  Great.  Brett, I don’t want to eat up any more of your time.  If it’s ok with you, I would like to talk with you later about training for reps.

Brett Wise  That would be fine.  We have some material that we can discuss.

This Latin word, Veritas, now appears in many University mottos.  It is included in Yale University’s motto Lux et Veritas (Light and Truth). Veritas is also the motto of Harvard University and the Roman Catholic Church.
